Waves rise at UAE Eastern Coast: The National Centre for Meteorology and Seismology

Abu Dhabi, Jun 04th, 2010 (WAM)--The UAE Eastern Coast has been affected by Typhoon Phet, which has turned into a tropical storm at the speed 85 km / h, while see wave has risen 4 to 6 feet as water entered to certain nearby areas as a result of waves backlash and the rising tide.

The easterly and North-Easterly winds are active from time to another, causing dust in some areas.

The National Centre for Meteorology and Seismology, said in a notice released today bearing number "5" that the last numerical forecast during the next 36 hours show wind speed will reach up to 35 knots on various parts of the country, adding that it will stir dust and waves on the east coast will rise between 7 to 9 feet and may even reach up to 13 feet in the deep sea with opportunity for rain in some eastern and southern regions of the UAE.

It warned seafarers not to surf in the sea during the next 36 hours and be cautious of reduced visibility due to sand raised by active wind, noting that the wave on the east coast of the UAE may cause flow of sea to the low land and on the streets near the beach.

The Centre said that the latest satellite images and weather maps indicated a shift of tropical cyclone phet to tropical storm status in Sour southwest. It added that the speed of storm is estimated at 85 km / h and heavy rains continue to fall on the eastern regions of Oman and Muscat.
