AMMAN (JT) - Visa Jordan Card Services announced in a press release on Monday that it has changed its name to EMP Middle East following its acquisition by the EMP Group. "The new company name and logo were launched during a special ceremony on Monday," the press statement said, indicating that EMP Middle East manages 80 per cent of point of sales terminals in Jordan and provide card processing services to most of the country's banks.

The company also runs Jonet - the system that allows people to withdraw cash at any ATM. It also operates a card personalisation facility - the only one in Jordan that can print both Visa and MasterCards. Paul Edwards, executive chairman of the EMP Group, said in the press release: "Jordan has an excellent electronic payments infrastructure and the most majority of Jordanians have a debit or credit card. Nevertheless, the use of cash remains high so we believe there is a lot of growth potential."
