KUWAIT: According to recent studies into Kuwait's road transport problems, renovating the Fourth Ring Road will help greatly in resolving all Kuwait's traffic-related difficulties, said a government minister yesterday.
Speaking to reporters during an inspection tour of a number of sites where upgrading work is currently being carried out, Dr. Fadhil Safar, the Minister of Public Works and of Municipality Affairs, also revealed that a coordinated renovation and expansion project for the entire length of the Fourth Ring Road has already been submitted to the Central Tenders Committee (CTC).
Dr. Safar also talked about the Ministry of Public Works' (MPW) plans for similar expansion of the Fifth and Sixth Ring Roads, explaining that a comprehensive program of renovation to the First Ring Road will shortly be completed, with the thoroughfare set to be reopened by the end of this year.
Another major road program touched on by the minister was the Subbiya Road project, one of the largest projects being carried out by the MPW as part of the government's development plan. Work is set to begin on the project in the near future, Dr. Safar explained, stressing that the MPW is meeting the targets included in the development program's schedule.
During yesterday's tour of the various sites, Dr. Safar checked on the progress of work at various road and infrastructure renovation projects. Amongst the locations visited were projects along the coastal road, as well as a major road junction currently being constructed on Fahaheel Highway.
