The Umm Al Hassam flyover and parts of Sitra Bridge are to be opened to traffic today. Minister of Works Fahmi bin Ali Al Jowder confirmed yesterday that the first phase of the project has been completed, with construction work on the upper flyover of the Umm Al Hassam Junction and the two western marine bridges having ending yesterday.
The flyovers and bridges are to open this morning with trucks being permitted to use the western part of Sitra Bridge which leads from Umm Al Hassam to Sitra. The bridge heading in the opposite direction has not yet been completed and will only be opened once the eastern marine bridges are complete.
This project is considered one of the most large-scale and complicated road projects being implemented by the Ministry of Works and is expected to greatly contribute to the future development of the Kingdom. The project site spans more than 3.2km and extends from the Umm Al Hassam Junction to the Industrial Area Junction in Sitra. The project also consists of underground
infrastructure and includes the setting up of high and low voltage cables, water, sewage, gas and irrigation networks.
