Washington: The US Senator Robert Menendez said that Jordan plays a key role in the region, stressing the strong US - Jordanian ties.
In an interview with the Jordan News Agency (Petra) and the Jordan Television, Menendez said that he met with His Majesty King Abdullah II recently in Washington and discussed regional challenges, particularly the crisis in Syria and the Syrian refugee camps inside in the kingdom.
Menendez added that the World Economic Forum 2013 is an opportunity to look at the challenges and the opportunities in a more regional context.
I look forward to visiting the Syrian refugee camps in addition to attending the forum to get a first hand look at some of these issues, he added.
On Syria, the US senator expressed hope that a political solution could be achieved. I hope that the Geneva 2 conference that Secretary Kerry, along with the Russians are having, can move us in the right direction, he said.
