(Adds that BP declined to comment in final paragraph.)

LONDON (Dow Jones)--Iran-owned oil company Naftiran Intertrade Co. still owns about 0.01% in U.K. oil company BP PLC (BP, BP.LN), according to a person familiar with the matter.

The stake wouldn't have any impact on BP but underscores how Iran retains holdings scattered in the West despite mounting sanctions over its nuclear program.

No one was available for comment at Naftiran.

A BP spokesman said it "will not comment on individual shareholders in BP."
