Dubai: Efforts to grow and support Arab content and broadcasting abilities in the UAE took a big leap ahead on Wednesday as TRA confirmed that Abu Dhabi based media entity twofour54, has secured a satellite transmission licence.

The Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA) said it granted the licence to twofour54 to bolster UAE’s telecom sector

Mohammad Nasser Al Ganem, director general of TRA, said that granting the licence will “promote competition among operators in order to reach a high level of services to users. We are confident that the new licensee has the abilities and required technologies to enrich our telecommunication sector.”

“The UAE telecommunication sector has witnessed rapid developments that granted a leading regional position. We are looking forward, in a systematic and well examined manner, to increase the number of licensees who enjoy the ability of providing quality services that contribute in improving the performance of the telecommunications sector,” Al Ganem said.
