Dubai: Gulf Petrochemicals and Chemicals Association (GPCA) said on Wednesday that the UAE’s fertiliser market has grown by more than 50 per cent in the last decade. According to a statement this has risen to 5 million tonnes. The UAE accounts for the third largest share of fertiliser production in the GCC. The results are part of GPCA’s fertilisers indicators report.

According to a statement by the company, fertiliser producers have manufactured 5 million tons of products in 2014, which is an increase from 3.2 million tons in 2004.

Meanwhile, fertiliser capacity in the Gulf grew up to 40.8 million tons in 2014 which is a 3.8 per cent increase from the previous year, raising revenues to $6.5 billion.

On the other hand, the company said that its fertiliser convention will be helped in Dubai during September 14-16. In this convention, the topic of innovation will be a key focus at the upcoming GPCA fertiliser convention. The convention is under the theme of “Innovating for growth: Ensuring an efficient, sustainable future”. This conference will shed light on how the GCC’s fertiliser industry can contribute to global food security while embracing an environmentally sustainable future.

The company also said in the statement that the GCC’s fertiliser manufacturers should diversify their product portfolio to include speciality fertilisers. Only 396,000 tons of speciality fertilisers are currently produced in the GCC.
