The United Arab Emirates University (UAEU) launched the 8th Annual Gulf Region NASPA Conference for Student Affairs Professionals, under the slogan 'Leadership, Education and Participation', in order to develop the role of student affairs in higher education. The conference which will continue for two executive days, presents about 52 papers distributed among 5 major sessions, where student affairs professionals from local, Arab, and international universities will hold discussions in the presence of the university students, administrators, and academics.
Prof. Mohamed Albaili, Deputy VC for Academic Affairs (Provost), inaugurated the conference, in the presence of Prof. Ghaleb Ali Alhadrami, Deputy VC for Student Affairs & Enrollment, and Dr. Kevin Kruger, President of Student Affairs Administrators in Higher Education (NASPA) in the USA. Professor Albaili, in his opening speech, sent the regards of His Excellency Sheikh Hamdan Bin Mubarak, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, and Chancellor of UAEU, conveying his wish for a successful conference, that would find solutions and recommendations that best serve the international educational process.
Prof. Albaili said, "This conference provides an ideal opportunity to support education and self-development for the educational communities, and to develop the educational process through establishing collaboration between these communities, providing the highest quality standards for the students, and through creating distinguished contributions in the teaching methods and educational outputs."
Dr. Kruger said that the students affairs sector plays a pivotal role in a student's life at the university and should take into consideration that each student is one of a kind.
Mr. Mohamed Madi, member of the organizing committee of the conference, highlighted the international reputation of UAEU and its ability to hold such conferences, in addition to its partnerships with the international authorities, such as the Student Affairs Administrators in Higher Education (NASPA) in USA, the American College Personnel Association, and Association of College and University Housing Officers - International.
Workshops and training courses were organized for participants two days prior to the conference, in order for participants to view the major issues and goals that were discussed during the sessions, and to make maximum use of the academic elites at the conference.
