Popular tourist destination Jebel Akdhar will see two new hotels coming up. Construction on these projects has begun. The hotels - at Hail Misbhat and near Diana Point - will cater to tourists flocking to the mountains for respite from heat.

Talking to Muscat Daily, Abdul Wahid al Farsi, vice president, external affairs at Omran said, "Omran is working on a project to build a hotel in Hail Misbhat, the highest point in Jebel Akhdar."

He said that the hotel, the name of which is yet to be finalised, will be operated by Alila Hotels and Resorts, a Singapore-based hotel chain.

The group will take over responsibility for the entire resort once it is opened. "Construction is on in full swing and the hotel is expected to be operational by the last quarter of 2013," Farsi said.

Calling Alila Hotels and Resorts one of the most well-regarded brands in the Asia-Pacific region, he said it will ensure that the hotel, which will boast of a spa and health club, offers the best in relaxation.

It will have 86 suites and world class spa suites, along with a cliff-side restaurant and pool, said Farsi. W S Atkins is the architecture firm for the project.

Satish Chandrasekhar, general manager of Jebel Akhdar Hotel which is located close to the site of the second project said, "There is a new 60-room hotel coming up in the Diana Point area of Jebel Akhdar."

He said that the hotel will be located close to the Sahab hotel and is expected to be ready by the end of 2012 or early 2013. Chandrasekhar said that a third hotel, also a private project, was in the pipeline.

Hotel occupancy in the area goes up to 80 to 85 per cent from September to April, because of foreign visitors, Chandrasekhar said.
