"Sigma Conseil", a leading Tunisian audit company recently issued a study which shows that out of the top 10 advertising companies in the Maghreb, 6 are telecom companies.
"Tunisiana", an Orascom company and Tunisia's second largest private cell phone operator, is ranked among the top ten advertising companies in the Maghreb with some 9, 1 million Euros spent on advertising expenses.
Four Moroccan companies lead the rankings, including Maroc Telecom with 37,2 million Euros followed by Meditel, Wana Corporate and Procter & Gamble Morocco. Two Algerian companies are also part of the top ten with Orascom Telecom Algeria(12,1 million Euros) and Wataniya Telecom Algeria (9) million Euros).
Sigma also notes that Tunisia's agro-food group GIAS which groups the olive oil company Nejma and the margarine company Goldina among others is the country's second largest advertisers with 6,9 million Euros spent on publicity.
Sigma's general manager, Mr Hassen Zargouni remarks that the forthcoming launch of the third telecommunications company "Orange" in Tunisia, is "likely to change the rules of the game in the country's already highly competitive advertising market".
