MUSCAT -- The recently concluded 10th edition of The BIG Show registered a record of 7,500 visitors from March 17 to 20. This year also recorded more than 200 companies, with international companies taking up majority of the exhibition space at the Oman International Exhibition Centre.
Commenting on the outcome of the show, Murli Menon of United Plastic Manufacturing says, "This year's show is much better than the previous one. The Oman Builders Forum was also a good and well-organised seminar and very informative."
The Oman Builders Forum, held for the first time, also received a positive delegate response from the construction market. The Forum, supported by the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) and WS Atkins and sponsored by Voltamp Energy, tackled construction contracts and urban and building issues in Oman through two-day lectures and panel discussions. The lectures and panel discussions were presented and chaired by local and international construction experts from Driver Consult, Trowers & Hamlins, Bahwan Engineering Group, Voltamp Energy, Curtis, Mallet-Prevost, Colt & Mosle LLP, WS Atkins, Royal Court Affairs, 23 Degrees North and Culltons.
The Forum's project manager Ahmed Sayed says "We are pleased that the Forum was a big success. We plan to take it to the next level and expand the Forum topics to include a wider relevant lineup to benefit the construction industry more. We are looking at inviting more international speakers to attract a higher number of delegates."
Companies that reported closing business deals during The BIG Show are Al Takamol Factory (Saudi Arabia), Gulf International Tensile (Oman), Alaa Al-Jazeera National Trade (Oman), Oman Plaster, RITMO Spa (Italy), Hormozgan Cement Co. (Iran), Aseel Marble (Turkey), Pioneer Cranes & Elevators (India), Unique Scaffolding (UAE), Union International Bitumen Factory (Saudi Arabia), and Al Reef Steel (UAE), most of which participated for the first time.
"The concept itself of housing all products under one roof is excellent. We will definitely be participating again next year," Sameer Yousuff of Arabian Image Trading remarks.
The BIG Show 2013 was officially opened by Under-Secretary for Commerce and Industry Ahmed bin Hassan al Dheeb. It is recognised as the biggest and most important show for the construction sector and has pioneered other home, infrastructure and building and construction shows in Oman.
