Etisalat Egypt will spend about USD 500 million on developing and modernizing its network infrastructure to deliver fourth-generation broadband connectivity of up to 100 megabytes per second, the company's chief executive told Zawya.

Saeed Al Hamli said that the company is waiting for bids from firms that will be short-listed for the upgradation project, "parts of which have already undergone preliminary testing". Etisalat Egypt had 22.1 million subscribers across its various services at the end of March 2012.

The telecoms provider posted a 19% net profit growth in the second quarter of this year to EGP 801 million, compared to EGP 672 million in the same period of last year.
