The Oman subsidiary of Técnicas Reunidas (TR), a Spanish-based international general contractor engaged in the engineering and construction of industrial facilities, has demonstrated its formidable capabilities with the successful completion recently of Petroleum Development Oman's (PDO) Saih Rawl Depletion Compression Project.
The Saih Rawl facility was inaugurated recently by His Highness Sayyid Mansour bin Majid al Said, Adviser to the Minister of Heritage and Culture, in the presence of a number of dignitaries, including Nasser bin Khamis al Jashmi, Under-Secretary of the Ministry of Oil and Gas, Raoul Restucci, Managing Director PDO, and Jose Luis Rosello, Spanish Ambassador in the Sultanate of Oman.
"With the inauguration of the Saih Rawl Depletion Compression facilities, Técnicas Reunidas Oman (TR Oman) as prime Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) contractor for the project and their construction partner BEC, have achieved a major milestone which demonstrates their strength in successfully completing large-scale upstream oil and gas projects and their commitment to the development of oil and gas industry in the Sultanate of Oman," TR Oman said in a statement.
The project involved installation of Saih Rawl Depletion Compression (SRDC) facilities Phase I designed to handle a total inlet gas flow of 49 million standard cubic metres per day, comprising of four compressor packages.
As the gas is being produced from Saih Rawl, the reservoir pressure of Saih Rawl wells will decline over the remaining lifetime of the field. In order to continue processing wet gas from Saih Rawl wells and maintain its gas export capacity, the inlet pressure of the gas conditioning trains in the Saih Rawl CPP must be maintained constant at 96 Bar(a). To achieve this, two stages of depletion compressors are anticipated -- Phase I when reservoir pressure drops till 35 Bar(a) pressure which is now implemented, and Phase II when the reservoir will drop till 15 Bar(a) pressure, currently in the tendering stage, to guarantee the inlet pressure of 96 Bar(a) at the processing plant.
In addition to Gas compression facilities, a new power station (Saih Rawl 2-Power Station) has been installed to supply power to the compressors. The power station comprises of a single Gas Turbine Generator Unit of 120-160 MW, which uses natural gas as single fuel.
The commissioning of SRDC Project has ensured continuous gas supply to downstream industries such as Oman LNG, Sur Industrial Estate and PDO for power generation, thus maintaining the momentum of industrial growth in Oman.
TR Oman is an affiliate company of Técnicas Reunidas, Spain which is one of the Europe's largest EPC companies specialising in implementation of engineering projects and has presence in the upstream and downstream oil and gas markets in America, Europe, Middle East and Asia.
Técnicas Reunidas has over 5,000 employees and since their inception in 1960 has managed more than 1,000 projects in over 50 countries and provides a unique range of services covering upstream and downstream oil and gas, power, petrochemical and infrastructure. The services range from Conceptual Studies, Engineering, Lump sum Turnkey Projects, Project Management, and others as per client requirements.
Técnicas Reunidas commenced their activities in Oman in Year 2006 by formation of TR Engineering which provides engineering services for major oil and gas projects in Oman and other Gulf countries carrying out Conceptual Studies, Basic Design, Front End Engineering Design, Detail Design and Project Management Services.
Founded in 1977, Bahwan Engineering Group (BEC) is the flagship of the Suhail Bahwan Group, one of Oman's foremost business houses. The Group's unflagging penchant for evolution has helped it emerge as one of the largest engineering construction groups in Oman.
BEC today executes integrated multi-disciplinary construction projects under one umbrella, involving civil, mechanical, electrical construction, elevators and escalators, diesel power generation, trading in electrical and mechanical products and facilities management services in Oman and the UAE.
With more than 12,000 employees, including 600 engineers, the BEC group has established itself as the leader in integrated construction projects in sectors such as oil, gas and power projects, high voltage transmission and distribution projects, airports, hotels, hospitals and commercial-residential complexes.
