ABU DHABI: The Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA) has organized an awareness workshop titled "usage of ICTs while driving: Safety or disaster on the road", in celebration of the World Telecommunication and Information Society Day, observed this year on 17th May under the theme: "ICTs and Improving Road Safety".
Participating in the occasion were Abu Dhabi Police, Emirates Motors Company, representatives of RTA in addition to TRA's strategic partners Etisalat, Du and Al Thuraya. TRA represent the United Arab Emirates in the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), the United Nations specialized agency for information and communication technologies. TRA's celebration on May 16th coincides with the anniversary of the signing of the International Telegraph convention in 1865 which led to the creation of the ITU. The celebration included a press conference and an awareness workshop which took place after a video message from Ban Ki-Moon, UN General Secretary and Dr. Hamadoun Toure, ITU Secretary General. .Copyright Emirates News Agency (WAM) 2013.
