BAGHDAD: The Iraqi minister of finance has received an official invitation from his Syrian counterpart to visit Damascus and continue negotiations on financial issues.
"Today, Minister Baqir Jabr al-Zubeidi received an official invitation from his Syrian counterpart, Mohammad al-Hussein, to continue work on the development of financial relations between the two countries and to resume the meetings of the Syrian-Iraqi committee, which has recently convened in Baghdad," according to a Finance Ministry statement received by Aswat al-Iraq news agency.
The visit is expected to address old financial demands as well as a memorandum of understanding (MoU) that will provide credit facilities between the Commercial Bank of Syria and al-Rafideen Bank.
In late 2007, Zubeidi visited Syria and signed several MoUs on taxes, customs and banks.
