'Using Cell-Phone While Driving Cause Of Most Accidents'

KUWAIT CITY, April 7

A survey conducted last week by the Al-Seyassah daily shows 63 percent of the respondents believe the Ministry of Interior must tighten the screws when issuing driving licenses for expatriates if it is serious about solving the problem of traffic congestion in the country, reports Al-Seyassah daily.

They also say the problem can be contained through a series of solutions, and not just tightening the conditions for granting licenses but by expanding the roads network, building bridges and posting traffic police at vital locations. One percent of the respondents declined to comment on the situation.

Taking part in the survey were more than 450 people from different social walks of life, men and women.
Meanwhile, officer of the Media Department at the Security Media Administration Captain Othman Ghareeb has delivered a lecture on traffic regulations, dangers of driving without a license and road accidents at Fahad Al-Dowairi High School for Boys in Hawalli Educational District.

In a press statement Sunday, the Interior Ministry revealed the lecture is part of the series of traffic and security awareness campaigns it has launched in cooperation with the Ministry of Education.

Ghareeb discussed the dangerous activities of some motorists who completely disregard traffic regulations.  He presented a statistical report on traffic violations resulting in accidents, many of which have led to death.  He disclosed most accidents are caused by those who use their mobile phones by hand while driving.  He said many people and properties will be saved if only all road users strictly comply with the traffic regulations.

After the lecture, the administration of the school praised the Security Media Department for its commitment in holding seminars, lectures and other activities to raise public awareness on the importance of following traffic regulations.
