The Council approved establishment of Student Counselling Centre to provide the best and high-quality social and psychological services for students

Global academic accreditations granted to five colleges out of six offering bachelor's degree programs at Zayed University

Abu Dhabi - Her Excellency Sheikha Lubna Bint Khaled Al Qasimi, Minister of International Cooperation and Development and President of Zayed University (ZU), chaired the university's Council meeting that was held in St. Regis- Saadiyat Hotel in Abu Dhabi recently.

The meeting was also attended by council members, H.EAhmad Bin Byat, Chief Executive Officer of Dubai Holding, H.E Sami Dhaen Al Qamzi, Director-General at the Department of Economic Development, Dubai Deputy Chairman and Managing Director of Dubai Media Incorporated (DMI), H.E Mubarak Saeed AlShamsi, Director General of Abu Dhabi Centre for Technical and Vocational Education and Training, H.E Mariam Mohammed Al Rumaithi, Director General of the Foundation of Family Development and Professor Reyadh AlMehaideb, Vice President of ZU.

At the outset of the meeting, H.E Sheikha Lubna praised the ongoing support to ZU by the UAE wise leadership, which enabled the university to achieve its core mission and empowered students to grab opportunities to become active contributors in the progress and prosperity of the nation.

H.E Sheikha Lubna has also affirmed the university's keenness to provide a healthy and professional educational environment that nurtures students' talents and potentials and encourages scientific researches to establish a cadre of young enthusiastic graduates, who are able to serve their country and contribute to the development process in line with the UAE's strategy and the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research.

H.E. pointed out in this regard to the global academic accreditations granted to five colleges out of six colleges at ZU are offering bachelor's degree programs. 

Sheikha Lubna has also welcomed members of the Board of Trustees, who are well-known for their experience and balanced thinking from various sectors within the UAE, and thanked them for their active and effective role in the progress of academic work and the development of technical and administrative aspects within the university.

Professor Reyadh endorsed the minutes of the previous meeting, followed by a report that addressed the achievements and latest significant developments, which were achieved by the university so far.
 
Professor AlMehaideb has also addressed and highlighted the most significant developments and strides madeduring the previous period in terms of students and faculty member numbers, project plans to develop Abu Dhabi and Dubai campuses to serve the university's programs and review the performance of various departments, and scientific research and innovation strategies.

As topic of discussion on its agenda, the Council has discussed and approved the nominations for endowment chairs that were submitted by some of distinguished and outstanding faculty members, who made significant contributions in teaching, research, and scholarship.

During the meeting, the Council has also approved some nominations and applications to fulfil Dean positions for some colleges at the university, the list of 2014-2015 graduates from bachelor and master's degree programs, which was between September 2014 until end of May 2015 in addition to introducing a master's degree program in educational leadership and administration.

The Council has also approved the Deed of Audit, Risk and Compliance Committee to form with the Deed of Academic Committee and Deed of Professional Conduct, which were approved earlier, a completion to the university's governance system, reference and guidance for the Council's work within the next coming years.

The accommodation capacity in both Abu Dhabi and Dubai campuses was also discussed during the meeting and the final accounts of the university during 2014 were approved, after they were reviewed by the State Audit Institution.

The Council has also approved the establishment of the Student Counselling Centre to provide the best and high-quality social and psychological services for students according to international standards in order to help them adapt to the university's requirements.

Additionally, the Council has discussed the findings and recommendations submitted by the Consultancy Committee in regards to the university's strategic plans and reformation of the its organizational structure to best meet the university's academic mission, future developments and plans.
