Sharjah, May 19th, 2012 (WAM)--The Sharjah Commerce and Tourism Development Authority (SCTDA) has marked the International Museums Day, which falls on May 18, every year. The event was held this year under the theme: "Museums in a Changing World."Mohamed Ali Al Noman, Chairman of the SCTDA said that the Sharjah Museums represent the image of culture and civilisation in the Emirate of Sharjah, which owns 16 specialised museums, characterised with the rich history as each differs in featuring the legacy of the emirate in a scientific modern manner, and attracting visitors of all ages and nationalities.

He added that the cultural tourism is now considered an important factor in driving the growth of the GDP of the emirate due to the economic role being played by the cultural tourism in stimulating tourism and raising rates of tourists flow to the Emirate of Sharjah, indicating that more than 500, 000 tourists had visited the Sharjah museums last year.
