A large contingent of delegates from South Africa visited the SHCC headquarters to discuss bilateral healthcare relations

His Excellency, the Consul General of The Republic of South Africa Mr. Manabile Shogole, led a large contingent of high level delegates to the Sharjah Healthcare City) headquarters in order to explore investment opportunities and develop bilateral healthcare relations between the two countries.

H.E. Abdulla Ali Al Mahyan, Chairman of SHA (Sharjah Health Authority) and SHCC (Sharjah Healthcare City) along with his senior officials welcomed the delegation which consisted of several healthcare entrepreneurs and opinion makers from South Africa. The delegation was also joined by Dr.Gustaaf Wolvaardt, one of the 25 most influential South African healthcare professional.

Sharjah Healthcare City (SHCC) was formed in March 2012, under the directive and vision of H.H. Dr. Sheikh Sultan Bin Mohammed Al Qassimi, Member of the Supreme Council and the Ruler of Sharjah, with the objective to transform and enhance the regional healthcare service industry. SHCC offers healthcare related investment opportunities in the healthcare sector in Sharjah.

Commenting on the visit of the South African delegates, H.E. Abdulla Ali Al Mahyan, Chairman of SHCC said, "We have been successful in establishing Sharjah as the most sought after healthcare destination in the region through proactively pursuing cooperative agreements and collaborations with countries that have proven track records as premier medical destinations. SHCC will offer prospective investors both individuals and companies from South Africa an excellent investment opportunity at SHCC in the field of healthcare and related services under convenient free zone rules and regulations through a single window service system," he added.

The SHCC Chairman emphasized that the SHCC and the South African authorities have exchanged a number of views about the existing healthcare system in both countries and have agreed on developing a strong bilateral relations between the two authorities.

The South African delegation commended the work of SHCC and thanked the Chairman and his team for the opportunity provided to them.

SHCC has also collaborated with Korean and British healthcare authorities and investors last year.

SHCC is spread over about 1.2 million sqms of land of which 0.5 million sqms will be developed during the first phase. SHCC would be located besides the National highway, in close proximity to the city of Sharjah, Dubai and Sharjah international airports.

"The potential of Sharjah's healthcare sector is immense," Al Mahyan reiterated and said it is expected to grow rapidly, with various new projects in the stages of planning and execution - while many others are in the pipeline. Sharjah's healthcare sector is set to witness a major boom in the months and years ahead," he said.

The meeting concluded with the South African delegates thanking SHCC for their warm reception and hospitality. The delegates also extended their unwavering support to the Authority for its undertakings and developments.
