Seven companies are in the frame for the upcoming Ghubrah Independent Water Project (IWP), with demand for desalinated water in the area projected to hit 330,00cu m per day and the government planning to phase out groundwater use.
Issued on February 29, the 'Request for proposals for the development of an IWP at Al Ghubrah' tender has so far seen interest from Japanese conglomerate Marubeni Corporation, south-east Asian water project company Hyflux Group and Spanish group Acciona.
Malaysian power producer Malakoff Group, Spanish contractors Tecnicas Reunidas Group, Australian power and gas company Cobra Group and Spanish water company Valoriza Group are also in the running.
The deadline for offers is June 4, and no formal offers have been made so far.
