JEDDAH: The Ministry of Commerce and Industry has stopped export of cement and clinker to meet growing local demand and stabilize prices, its spokesman Ahmed Al-Abdali said on Monday.

"The ministry has been following supply of cement in the local market and has instructed factories to work with their full capacity," he said, adding that the new decision would ensure adequate supply.

Al-Abdali said the ministry had earlier instructed cement factories to ensure adequate supply to selling outlets in the Western Province.

Safwa factory was ordered to operate at its full capacity while Southern Cement was asked to operate a new line of production and supply 10,000 tons daily to the Western Province.

"The ministry will continue to follow up on supply in all regions of the Kingdom and make necessary measures to ensure enough supply and stabilize prices," he said.
