RIYADH (Zawya Dow Jones)--Saudi Kayan Petrochemical Co. (2350.SA) said Tuesday it started trial operations at its amines plant at its mega petrochemical complex in Jubail industrial city.

The project has a capacity to produce 100,000 tons of ethanol amines per year as well as 40,000 tons of ethoxylates annually, it said in a statement posted on the Saudi bourse website.

Ehanol amines are used in several industries such as treating natural gas and the production of disinfectants, while ethoxylates are used in detergents.

Saudi Basic Industries Corp. (2010.SA), the Middle East's largest listed company, is Kayan's largest shareholder.

The Kayan complex is expected to have an annual production capacity of more than 4 million tons of petrochemical and chemical products when it is fully operational later this year.
