The Ministry of Electricity and Water said it is ready to meet electricity consumption and avoid power disruptions during the summer when consumption increases, it was reported in Arabic dailies.

Speaking at the opening of a symposium on safe electricity on Tuesday, Saleh Al-Awaji, the undersecretary for electricity affairs, said he expected the level of services this summer to meet global standards. He said the ministry was cooperating with Saudi Customs and the Standards, Metrology and Quality Organization (SASO) to hold off poor-quality products, adding that he hoped for national laboratories to test and verify that imported and locally produced products are meeting standards.

"Many blame SASO in this regard (the presence of poor-quality products in the markets) because it is the body to issue standards.

Implementing these standards is a shared task involving the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Saudi Customs, and the Ministry of Water and Electricity. These are now working as a team to apply the measures that would guarantee the quality of products in markets," he said.
