Damascus 13 September 2011: Samsung Electronics Syria, part of the leading and universally awarded electronics and technology innovator, has installed an informatics lab in the SOS Children's village, Syria. The lab/suite which has been equipped with modern laptops, a projector and multi-task printer, in addition to being updated, in order to provide the latest technological and internet surfing tools and services.
The idea behind this collaboration is to provide a healthy environment in which the children can surf the web and obtain information, which may assist them in their education, and upgrade their learning skills and computer driving abilities.
On the occasion Mr. Sangsuk Roh, President of Samsung Electronics Levant office, commented: "This initiative reflects Samsung's sincerity towards its traditional social-development project. It aims to foster modern education by grounding the endeavors of organizations, such as SOS Village, with technical support and innovating ideas. "
He also added: "Samsung possesses a rich record across the world in regards to empowering local communities in which it operates, while preserving the social and cultural identity and traditions of these societies. Here in Syria, this initiative is only the first among many that we are planning to execute in numerous fields."
Samsung has previously collaborated with the SOS Children's villages across the Middle East, through launching many charity projects and media campaigns. Including the CSR initiative, "Hope for Children with SOS", which was launched across the Levant region in June 2010; an initiative that focused on the education and health of all children in SOS Children's villages. The campaigns are aimed at promoting volunteerism and opening the door to diverse initiatives, to help such villages and similar establishments.
SOS Children's Villages is an NGO, active in the field of children's rights, needs and concerns across 132 countries since it was founded in 1949.
Worthy of mention is that Samsung Electronics Syria has collaborated with IGT for the installation of the new computers and their networks, in addition to all other required tasks for the preparation of the lab.
