Ras Al Khaimah: Many expatriates in Ras Al Khaimah were shocked after receiving a message from the General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs department in Ras Al Khaimah telling them their visa was cancelled.

People who received the messages tried to contact the residency department but no one was available to answer peoples’ inquires as their working hours had ended.

However, the residency department sent another message to the same people who received cancellation messages to end their confusion on Tuesday evening.

A senior official at the Ras Al Khaimah Residency department told Gulf News the department has used a new cancellation system and the messages were sent to people as the department tested it.

“The error was unintentional, and occurred during the experience of a new system to cancel visas of those who left the state. It was a trial for the system,” an official explained

The department sent messages to people whose visas had expired and were out of the state but messages were also sent to people with valid visas.

“The department immediately sent another message to the same numbers to apologise first over the confusion and telling them it was a trail of a new system,” the official added.
