The Qatar Fertilizer Company (Qafco) will complete the USD 610 million expansion of the Qafco VI ammonia and urea complex and commercial production will begin in October 2012, Qafco managing director Khalifa Al Sowaidi told Zawya.
Qafco VI will produce 5.6 million tons per annum of urea, making it one of the biggest producers in the world, Al Sowaidi said. Qafco V, completed last year, produces 3.8 million tpa of ammonia and 4.3 million tpa of urea.
"Demand for our products continues to increase. The global crisis has not made a dent in our sales, especially those to the Chinese market, which has become our most prominent customer," Al Sowaidi said.
