DOHA: Fit-out works of healthcare facilities at Hamad Medical City will soon begin with an agreement worth a whooping sum of QR2b signed between Public Works Authority (Ashghal) and South Korea's Hyundai Engineering and Construction Company, yesterday.
The project involves converting, furnishing, redesigning and equipping buildings that were used as part of the athletes' village for the 2006 Doha Asian Games into specialised hospitals.
Eng Nasser Ali Al Mawlawi, Chairman of Ashghal signed the QR1,945,372,074 worth agreement with Joong Kyum Kim, President and CEO Hyundai Engineering And Construction. Works on three hospital towers at HMC, namely Women's, Surgical, and Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, along with an advanced Research Center will begin on February 1, 2011 and will be completed in 35 months.
"The hospitals are designed in the most advanced technical and medical standards," said Al Mawlawi, in the presence of See Jeong Chang, Korean Ambassdor and Dr Hanan Al Kuwari, Managing Director, Hamad Medical Corporation.
The medical city hospitals stretch over a built up area of 216,000sqm, and have around 500 beds. The new Women's Hospital has around five operating theatres, 60 Out-Patient (OP) examining rooms and 21 delivery-recovery rooms. It has a full-fleged accident and emergency department with a series of rooms for C-Section, triage, ultrasound, treatment rooms, and emergency delivery rooms. The Women's Hospital Tower houses over 190 single patient rooms and over 60 bassinets for new born babies.
All-new Surgical Hospital will have a radiology suite, Examination/ Treatment bays, a 12 exam room suite for ENT and Audiology, along with a suite for day-care procedures. The surgery suite has 11 operating theatres with recovery rooms and support. The diabetes centre located in the tower covers 3,400sqm with over 30 specialised examination rooms. The tower will also have over 59 dedicated short stay patients.
The Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Hospital will have an advanced Adult Hydrotherapy suite. The OP physical therapy has 12 treatment rooms, four gyms, Group-Therapy room and a suite for education and support. The main laboratory will be located in this building. The tower will have 200 patient beds with all supporting facilities.
