DOHA: Qatar Automobiles Company (QAC) yesterday hosted Qatar Rally 2010 champ Abdul Aziz Al Kuwari at its state-of-the-art Mitsubishi showroom, as part of its commitment to support sporting and social activities in the country.
"We are very proud of Al Kuwari and are happy that he is Qatar's new rally champion. This is not the first time that QAC takes part in sport events in Qatar. Our core mission is to be valuable contributors to the society in all possible aspects. We are delighted that our participation in the sporting arena is yielding positive results," said Yann Lassade, General Manager of Qatar Automobile Company, adding they were delighted Al Kuwari chose to drive Mitsubishi Lancer Evo to victory.
"I started driving Mitsubishi Evo in 2003 and I think it is key to my success in the field of professional rally," said Al Kuwari, lauding the car's efficiency and its cheap price compared to other race cars.
Al Kuwari has been driving Mitsubishi Evo 9 for four years now and said he looked forward to driving Evo 10 next year as he takes part in upcoming events specially the next season of Qatar Rally which he said he had been concentrating on.
"Qatar Rally is not an easy race so I'm already concentrating on the next edition quite early. I hope to retain the title," he said.
In line with its mission to play a vital role in the socio-economic progress of Qatar, QAC--the exclusive distributor of Mitsubishi Motors and Fuso light-duty trucks and buses in Qatar--is keen on supporting sporting and social activities that are important to the community. These include rally championships, equestrian championships, tennis, marine sports and others.
Al Kuwari who has raced across the Middle East and Turkey, and other international countries, exhibited his winning Mitsubishi Lancer Evo that landed him the first place in the Qatar Rally 2010.
"I thank QAC for all the support it has showed me," said Al Kuwari. He said: "This kind of encouragement is essential to the promotion of sports in Qatar and the region; and QAC is playing a key role in this field."
Meanwhile QAC will be opening a new after-sales centre in the Industrial Area which can service 100 cars a day, said Lassade.
