Sharjah, 12th April 2012 (WAM) - The Pink Caravans riders completed their 8th day in Dubai with a series of visits to vital areas across the emirate, beginning with Jumeirah and the shoreline, passing through Dubai Media City and finally on to Mina Al Seyahi. The Pink Caravans riders were led jointly by three ambassadors, namely Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdullah Al Thani, Director General of the Sharjah Statistics Centre, Poet Saud bin Hamad Al Kaabi and sport expert Zainah Habi. They were joined by rider Rashid bin Tamim.
The Pink Caravans passage through this vital area of Dubai was an important opportunity to meet and interact with the residents of the emirate and to meet with the media, significantly contributing to delivering the Pink Caravans message to all segments of society. Speaking on the occasion, Ameera Bin Karam, Founding Member and President of the FOCP, said: "It is as important this year to be present in the main roads and vital areas in the emirates of the UAE as it is to be in remote places to be visible to all people who will, in their turn, speak about the Pink Caravan to others and disseminate its objectives all over the UAE". "Peoples interaction with the campaign and the riders underscored the need for similar initiatives that are led by a group of young people, who are closer to all segments of society, to help turn every citizen into an ambassador who is able to communicate the Pink Caravans message in his surroundings and neighbourhood", she added. The Pink Caravan will head to Al Samha and Al Shahama and is scheduled to arrive in Abu Dhabi on Saturday. A gala closing ceremony will be organized in the presence of a number of the Pink Caravans ambassadors and prominent figures in various sectors, as well as the Organizing Committee, the Pink Caravans riders, volunteers and medical personnel. Pink Caravans campaign will run annually until 2014, under the patronage of HH Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah and under the directives of Sheikha Jawaher bint Mohammed Al Qasimi, Chairperson of the Supreme Council for Family Affairs. The Pink Caravans ride started in Sharjah on 5th of April and will culminate in Abu Dhabi on 14th of April. The Pink Caravan has over 180 riders divided into 15 18 riders daily, including the Pink Caravans ambassadors. The Pink Caravans ride aims to spread greater awareness about breast cancer, encourage regular tests, and raise funds to buy a 3D mammogram clinic, which will provide free tests for citizens and expatriates in the country.Copyright Emirates News Agency (WAM) 2012.
