MUSCAT -- The Omani Centre for Investment Promotion and Export Development (Ociped) in coordination with the Directorate General of Fisheries Resources, Ministry of Fisheries had organised Omani fish exporters participation at the international seafood show held in Boston, the US recently.
Five Omani fish companies Protein Products International, Al Marsa Fisheries, Bantout Seafood Products, Al Bahihi Fish Freezing Company and Dhofar Fisheries Industries Company have participated in the show and had a very good response for all the products that were displayed such as tuna, tuna loins, canned tuna, canned sardines, pre-cooked frozen tuna loins, fish meal and fish oil, lobsters, lobster tails, shrimps, groupers, sea breams and other dermesal species.
The participants felt confident after having met many of the importers, distributors of fresh, frozen and value added seafood would result in substantial order generation to the tune of $2 million. The Omani exporters also had a fair exposure of the latest equipment, machineries and technology used for fish processing as well as different packing methods and marketing techniques.
The Omani pavilion attracted a lot of people who watched with keen interest the harvesting of tuna and shrimp farming, which was presented through a video show. Aiman Ambusaidi, Director of Export of Ociped and Abdullah Mohd Yahya al Haddabi, Adviser, Fisheries Planning, Under Secretaries Office at the Ministry of Fisheries were upbeat about the outcome of Omani participation and hoped that the fish companies will follow up with the various leads generated at the show.
