Water projects realised
The aim of the Authority through the implementation of water projects in various areas is to provide clean and healthy water to all people.
MUSCAT -- Obaid Saeed al Shukairi, Project Manager at the Public Authority for Electricity and Water in Al Wusta Governorate, said that the Authority has implemented a number of water projects at a cost of RO 60 million, which includes establishment and expansion of water distribution networks and transmission lines, pumping stations and other water projects.
Al Shukairi (pictured) added: "One of the projects being implemented is the water supply project in the Wilayat of Duqm which is fed from the desalination plant in Al Duqm with an estimated capacity of 6,000 cubic metres per day.
The implementation of the project comes within the framework of the provision of water to industrial and services projects implemented by the government such as the Port of Duqm and (dry dock) and Al Duqm Airport, hotels and the Sai village that need large amounts of water per day to meet the growing demand as expected during the next phase.
The project includes extending a main water line 22 kilometres from the pumping station to the distribution tank number 1 at the centre of the city. The project also includes the development of a water distribution network with a length of 50 kilometres from tank number 2 to Al Duqm and a pipeline with a length of 37 kilometres to the Dry Dock project, the establishment of filling stations and the designing control system (using SCADA).
He added that the project to expand water desalination plant in the village of Hitam in Al Duqm had been assigned where the project includes the expansion of the station at 200 cubic metres per day, and the development of a cistern with a capacity of 300 cubic m3, the establishment of a system to expel salt water, and the establishment of an office building for operations and maintenance.
Al Jazir projects
Two water networks have been implemented in Al Jazir in the villages of Souqrah and Al Kohl, and the project includes the supply and installation of major pipelines to transport drinking water in a diametre of 150 mm and 280 mm for a distance of more than 3.5 kilometres.
In addition to the supply and installation of distribution pipe network of drinking water with different diameters of 315, 225, 180 and 100 mm of high-pressure resistance plastic to a distance of 38 kilometres and the establishment of drinking water pumping station that consists of the administration building and a building for pumping water, control room, guard room and as well as the fence surrounding the station.
The project included the construction of upper water tank of 30 metres high and 250 cubic metres capacity. Works also include the establishment of rooms for valves, pressure gauge and fire extinguishers.
