MUSCAT -- The Authority for Electricity Regulation -- Oman on Tuesday issued Licence Exemption Orders to companies who will collectively provide 299MW of temporary generation to support the main grid during the coming summer.
Exemption Orders were issued to Bahwan Enterprises LLC (24 MW), Oasis Trading & Equipment Co LLC (75 MW0, OFSAT Ltd Co LLC (160 MW) and Sakr Energy Solutions -- Oman Branch (40 MW).
Commencing on May 1, 2012, the authorisations continue for the duration of each company's contract with Oman Power and Water Procurement Company (OPWP).
John Cunneen, Executive Director of the Authority, speaking on granting the Exemption Orders said: "The temporary generation covered by the four Exemption Orders will be important to ensuring the security of electricity supply during the coming summer months.
This will be the last time temporary diesel generation will be required as the Barka III and Sohar II IPPs that are being commissioned will shortly commence commercial operation.
The Authority acknowledges the steps taken by the PWP to contract the temporary generation that is in line with the electricity sectors duty to provide customers with secure supplies of electricity."
