Muscat: Applying its tried-and-tested paradigm for moving candidates out of the labour market and into long-term employment, Oman LNG has sealed a training-for-jobs pact with Opal to deliver management training to twenty young Omanis.

The training will be facilitated by Bahwan Cybertek and will run for seven months. For six of these months, the candidates will be taught courses on various aspects of sales, customer service, auditing, and accounting. In the final month, all the candidates  will be put through their paces during a hands-on internship.

90% Omanisation
Besides direct recruitment into its operations, which has yielded almost 90 per cent Omanisation--one of the highest in the country's energy sector--Oman LNG, the Sultanate's main liquefied natural gas (LNG) project, executes a vibrant social investment programme that allocates one and a half per cent of the company's net income after tax to a vast swath of social development programmes, from healthcare and education to women's development and training, among a host of other forward-looking initiatives.

Thus far, the company has enabled the recruitment of over 1400 candidates through its training for jobs model. In this particular instance, the candidates will receive monthly stipends during their schooling and salaried positions upon starting out in their new jobs. "Over the years, we at Opal have had the pleasure of working with Oman LNG and, together, we have successfully established a system where young Omanis receive the kind of training that is specifically required by companies looking to employ them," said Mohammed Al Harthi, Opal's CEO, shortly after signing the agreement at Oman LNG's head office in Muscat.

"This latest batch of twenty candidates will also undergo the requisite training and will then be provided with jobs that could well be the beginning of fulfilling careers for them." said Harib Al Kitani, Oman LNG's chief executive officer, after signing the agreement on the company's behalf. Oman LNG operates as a joint-venture company.
