Industrial unrest at the Rusayl Industrial Estate continued for the third week in a row with employees of Oman Cables Industry staging a strike on Saturday demanding hazardous duty pay, more allowances and compensation for working on national holidays as well as overtime payment.
The striking workers also demanded that the Ministry of Manpower monitor the company in its implementation of the Omani Labour Law as well as the recent decisions that were made by the Public Establishment for Industrial Estates (PEIE) on salary hikes and other benefits.
The striking employees added that a delegation from the Ministry of Manpower had come to the company to mediate in the negotiations between the protesters and the company management.
However, the meeting was not able to come to a negotiated settlement according to the protesters, who also alleged that company officials told them that their salaries would be cut if they continued with their strike.
An OCI employee said that the night shift workers had decided to strike and that the strike was likely to continue for some more days.
