MUSCAT -- Subscribers of the fixed phone service offered by Omantel stood at 294,440 at the end of March, against 287,323 in 2011, constituting an increase of 2.5 per cent. The monthly bulletin pointed out that subscribers of post-paid fixed phone services in the Sultanate stood at 219,200 at the end of March, against 215,193 in 2011. Subscribers of pre-paid fixed phone service (Sahl) stood at 25,764 against 26,345 in 2011. The number of public phones all over the Sultanate stood at 6,801 during 2011 and 2012.

The statistics pointed out that the number of fixed telephone subscribers in the Governorate of Muscat stood at 137,884 by end of March, followed by the governorates of South and North Al Batinah 32,187, Governorate of Dhofar 21,588, Governorate of Dakhiliyah 19,873, governorates of South and North Sharqiyah 16,209, Governorate of Dhahira 7,461, Governorate of Al Buriami 6,494, Governorate of Musandam 2,894 and the Governorate of Al Wusta 374.

Subscribers of post- and pre-paid GSM services provided by Oman Mobile and Nawras stood at 4,926,405 compared to 4,809,248 by the end of 2011, constituting a rise of 2.4 per cent. Subscribers of billed GSM services stood at 438,851 by the end of March, against 432,093 during 2011, constituting a rise of 1.5 per cent. Subscribers of pre-paid GSM services rose by 2.5 per cent to 4,487,824 against 4,377,155 during 2011.

Subscribers of Internet services stood at 97,426 at the end of March, compared to 89,063 during 2011, constituting an increase of 9.4 per cent. The number of broadband Internet service subscribers stood at 1,226,442 as at the end of March compared to 1,076,254 during 2011, constituting a rise of 14 per cent. The number of leased Internet line subscribers stood at 3,678 as at the end of March, compared to 3,670 in 2011, a slight growth of 0.2 per cent.
