Nitaqat will be a success: Survey

By By Joe Avancena DAMMAM - A straw poll conducted by the Asharqia Chamber of Commerce and Industry in the Eastern Province revealed that more than 50 percent of the respondent Saudi businessmen were convinced that the Nitaqat program will contribute in creating job opportunities for Saudis.
Of the total 392 Saudi businessmen who participated in the poll, which was conducted before Ramadan, 63.52 percent agreed that the Nitaqat program will help in the employment of citizens.
The percentage of those who disagreed that Nitaqat will ensure jobs for Saudis was 25.26 percent, or more than a quarter of the total who responded to the survey. Those who were not certain that Netaqat will guarantee jobs for Saudis constituted 11.22 percent.
Othman Bin Saleh Al-Hokail, Ministry of Labor Undersecretary, who visited the Eastern Province recently to brief businessmen about the Nitaqat program, has said that the ministry is setting up a database of the number of Saudi jobseekers.
The Ministry of Labor has assumed that about 30-40 percent of private firms and establishments fall under the yellow and red categories.
Under the Nitaqat program, companies falling in the red category will not be allowed to renew work visas of their foreign workers. The green category companies that complied with the Saudization requirements would be allowed to hire displaced expatriate workers from companies falling under the red and yellow categories without the approval of their employers.
