Qatari companies will explore the possibility of investing in viable markets anywhere in the world, said HE the Minister of Energy and Industry Dr Mohamed bin Saleh al-Sada yesterday. He was replying to a question on the possibilities of the new company, Nebras Power, entering the power and water markets across the world.
"If it seems a market is steady and performing well, viable and offers a one-to-one situation for growth for the stakeholders, we will explore the opportunities," said the minister, while reiterating that Qatari companies have an open mind on making investments. The minister said the new company would look for opportunities abroad in key utility areas such as power generation, desalination of water and other related services.
Qatar Electricity and Water Company (QEWC) general manager Fahd Hamad al-Mohannadi said the new company, which will operate only in international markets, would make competitive bids for projects it felt would be feasible.
The immediate plans of the new company is to look into the growing markets in the Middle East and North Africa (Mena) where the economies have recorded steady growths averaging above 5%, and also in the Far East, where there is still a lot of markets to be tapped.
