New Department of Forensic Science and Criminology

Dubai: Police yesterday (Wednesday) announced that a new forensic science and criminology department will be set up within two years, which will feature specialised areas related to chemistry, biology and nuclear science.
Speaking at a press conference, Lt Gen Dahi Khalfan Tamim, Chief of Dubai Police, explained that the department will be constructed at Dubai Police General Headquarters and cover a total area of 36,759 square metres.
The department will consist of four floors with a goal of reaching 700 employees by the year 2025, and will be built by Al Naboodah Construction Group.
The new department will feature storage rooms to hold evidence, explosives and various other items related to the field of criminology and forensic science.
Another key section in the new department will be related to DNA, and up to 99 per cent of all the police’s laboratory equipment will be located there to also test poison, ballistics, nuclear weapons and materials used in pharmaceuticals.
Major General Khamis Mattar Al Mazeina, Deputy Chief of Dubai Police, told reporters that he and a team of delegates visited FBI headquarters in the US and New Scotland Yard in the UK, to get acquainted with the latest technology used in solving crimes and methods used in transporting evidence to laboratories.
