Damascus - The National Company for Pharmaceutical Industry (NCPI), based in Aleppo, has won the World Finance's Best Pharmaceuticals Company Award for 2009.

NCPI was established in 1989. It was the first company in Syria to export products to Europe.

This achievement has been recorded at the Ministry of Health, and it adds to the company's other achievements in the field of pharmaceutical industries relating especially to heart diseases, blood pressure, diabetes and antibiotics, said NCPI director Haitham al-Kamal.

Pharmaceutical industry in Syria has stepped up remarkably over a few years. It has been able to cover the needs of local market by a percentage of approximately 90 %. It also had access to over 40 different Arab and foreign markets.
