MUSCAT -- In compliance with His Majesty's directive to support and grow Small and Medium Enterprises (SME) as the future engines of growth to Oman's economy, the National Bank of Oman recently concluded a training workshop held exclusively for a select group of SME, which were identified by the Ministry of Commerce and Industry.

The four-day Workshop was held at the bank's Academy of Excellence under the title: 'Starting and Growing Your Business'. Developed by AMIDEAST/Oman in partnership with the renowned Cisco Entrepreneur Institute, the program was tailored specifically to the interests and requests of the SMEs participating in the programme. The practical, activity-based, training program included group work, case studies and supplemental material online.

Nasser Al Hajri, Chief Human Resources Officer (CHRO), National Bank of Oman said in his opening speech:

"Today more than ever before, the Learning & Development of people has become an imperative element for sustainable success, productivity, and innovation of enterprise. The National Bank of Oman has established an Academy of Excellence to equip its staff with the know-how, skills and mindset to meet its objectives, and to position itself in a competitive platform. As mentioned by our forefathers "Don't give me the fish, teach me how to fish. Promoting self-reliance has become the National Bank of Oman's philosophy for ensuring sustainable growth". CHRO further stated that, it has always been the bank's goal & commitment to contribute towards the development of Omani entrepreneurial potential and to promote sustainable economic growth. We believe such initiatives will develop and instill skills and competencies that will truly fuel passion and enthusiasm in local SMEs. We hope to provide a great platform for take-off into the business world, and for sustained growth.

The key objective of the Workshop was to help Omani Entrepreneurs succeed in business by offering contemporary, global theories and proven methodologies adapted to the local context of the Omani market.
 
Most people fail in business because they make avoidable mistakes; the workshop explained what those mistakes are and how to avoid them. Abdul Qadir Ahmed, Deputy General Manager and Head of Retail Business at the National Bank of Oman added: "This Workshop is evidence of our commitment to the community. In addition to the technical and domain-specific knowledge, this was also an opportunity to network and learn from the experiences of others."

Addressing participants during the kick-off session of the workshop, Sarah Jackson, AMIDEAST/Oman's Country Director said: "AMIDEAST is honored to work with National Bank of Oman in providing training and expanding mentorship for Omani Small and Medium Enterprises". She further added "Through our partnership with the Cisco Entrepreneur Institute we offer a variety of interactive, results-oriented and content-rich workshops that respond to Royal's directive to support the development of entrepreneurship in Oman. We are delighted to have the opportunity to share solutions to the challenges that SMEs face as they seek to start or grow their businesses; and to interact with the outstanding mentors and entrepreneurs that National Bank of Oman has selected for this unique programme".
