Muscat: The convergence of top-notch international talent and the superior capabilities of Muscat Eye Laser Center is making possible the delivery of exceptional eye surgical care services here in the Sultanate. The Center has signed up an exclusive partnership with world-renowned eye surgeon, Dr. Takayuki Akahoshi to provide people with an opportunity to avail world-class cataract surgery at the Center. This is another step that reinforces the Center's philosophy of offering exemplary solutions to eye problems.
In what is considered to be a significant step towards the future of private eye care services in Oman, Dr. Akahoshi will make a three-day visit to Muscat from October 18-20 to offer his much sought after expertise in cataract surgery. Given the limited duration of his visit, customers are urged to book their appointments at the earliest to avoid disappointment. This visit of Dr. Akahoshi is part of a calendar of visits scheduled every alternative month by the Center.
A legend in his own right, Dr. Akahoshi has devoted much of his professional life to the advancement of cataract surgery. He is often acknowledged as the world's fastest cataract surgeon, clocking a blazing speed of one minute and 39 seconds on average for a surgery. This impressive performance attests to his unrivalled mastery and formidable skills as an eye surgeon.
The Japanese doctor, who presently serves at the Mitsui Memorial Hospital in Tokyo as its Director of Ophthalmology, is perhaps best known as the originator of the Phaco Prechop technique. He is also credited with contributing to the innovation of the pre-chopper cataract surgery instrument, a device that divides the nucleus through a tiny incision and greatly reduces phacoemulsification time and ultrasound energy. Following the introduction of this device in leading eye care institutions around the world, eye care surgery has become far easier and safer.
Dr. Akahoshi is also the recipient of the Grand Prix Prize at ASCRS (American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery) and ESCRS (European Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery) for the ground-breaking Knuckle Tip that increases safety and efficacy in cataract surgery.
Dr. Akahoshi urges people in the Sultanate to consult an eye specialist as soon as they develop vision problems. With early detection, surgery can be prompt and complication-free, he stresses.
For Muscat Eye Laser Center, the opportunity to host one of the world's most celebrated eye surgeons is a singular privilege, says Dr. Maria Clara Arabelaez, Medical Director of the Center. "We are deeply honoured to be hosting someone as distinguished as Dr Akahoshi. It is a rare privilege to watch him perform cataract operations at close quarters and to learn from his amazing skills. His visit, along with that of other renowned international specialists hosted by this Center from time to time, will also contribute to the development of this institution as a Center of learning and excellence in ophthalmology."
Jointly established by Sameer Al Awam and Dr. Maria Clara Arbelaez in April 2002, Muscat Eye Laser Center is Oman's leading eye care center specialising in refractive surgery using advanced technology and procedures. Centrally located in Qurum, the center has two fully equipped operating theatres, six consultation and meeting rooms, six diagnostic and four preparation rooms.
The specialist team is led by Dr. Maria Clara Arbelaez, an internationally recognised corneal transplant and refractive surgeon from Colombia with over 20 years of experience in Latin America, the Caribbean and the Middle East. She is known for her precision having performed over 50,000 successful surgeries. For more information, visit the website www.muscateye.com or the blog http://muscateye.blogspot.com/
