Dubai: The Advanced Military Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul Centre (Ammroc), a venture co-owned by Mubadala Aerospace, Sikorsky Aircraft Corporation and Lockheed Martin, will provide maintenance of aircraft and helicopters of the UAE Armed Forces General Headquarters (GHQ).

The contract, valued at Dh1.15 billion, will have an initial period of two years and can be renewed.

The GHQ and Ammroc are expected to enter into a Performance Based Logistics (PBL) arrangement for the maintenance, repair and overhaul requirements of UAE Armed Forces air assets.

The agreement will enable the UAE Armed Forces to focus on the operation of its aircraft.

The deal will also enable the UAE Armed Forces to optimise its manpower for actual missions and operations as Ammroc personnel will undertake the maintenance and repair work.

This also reinforces Ammrocs vision to operate a world class facility providing a self-sustaining, and commercially viable platform for the UAE Armed Forces.

Significant milestone

Fahd Al Shamsi, CEO of Ammroc, said: Being selected as the maintenance service provider by the GHQ is a significant milestone for Ammroc, demonstrating the outstanding progress that has been made by the company in a very short space of time.

It illustrates the level of trust that we have built with our most important customer and the ongoing commitment from our shareholders to build this capability for the benefit of the UAE.

Launched in July 2010, Ammroc is a joint venture company owned by Mubadala Aerospace, Sikorsky Aerospace Services, the aftermarket business of Sikorsky Aircraft Corporation and Lockheed Martin Corporation.

Ammroc is headquartered in Abu Dhabi.

With the combined strength of the partners and an aggregate investment that exceeds $800 million (Dh2.9 billion), Ammroc draws on decades of experience and expertise in aerospace engineering, material support, logistics, maintenance, component repair, overhaul and training, to deliver a fully integrated MRO support programme by a single provider.

Ammroc is currently based at Abu Dhabi International Airport until the completion of its new complex at Al Ain International Airport.

The centre is expected to create an additional 2,500 jobs in the UAE, focusing on the development of UAE nationals.

It will also maintain an on-site presence at UAE Armed Forces bases associated with ongoing maintenance support contracts.

Joint venture: flight training facility

Mubadala Aerospace, through its subsidiary Horizon Flight Academy (Horizon), announced at the Dubai Airshow a joint venture with Abu Dhabi Aviation (ADA) to establish an advanced flight training facility in the emirate dedicated to serving global commercial and defence customers.

Horizon announced that it had signed a contract with CAE for the purchase of a CAE 3000 Series full-flight simulator (FFS) representing the AgustaWestland AW139 helicopter to be owned and operated by the venture. The joint venture is subject to any required anti-trust and other regulatory approvals.

Homaid Al Shemmari, Executive Director, Mubadala Aerospace, said: This joint venture between Mubadala and ADA will bring together over 40 years of combined aircraft operating and training expertise and will capitalize on the significant projected global aircraft fleet growth in the coming years in both the commercial and defence markets.
