Doha, Qatar, February 1st: Marriott International has announced the appointment of Hossein Garan as General Manager of the Doha Marriott Gulf hotel.

With a career spanning 30 years in the Hotel industry, encompassing strong roots in Food and Beverage and experience in complex Hotel Operations, Mr Hossein Garan has comprehensive understanding of the industry and the ability to operate in diverse markets. He has worked with major chains in United States including Grand Hyatt, Waldorf Astoria New York City and 25 years with Marriott International. Most recently Mr Garan was the opening General Manager of Marriott Executive Apartments in Bahrain.

Hossein started his hotel career in 1982 in New York City with the Grand Hyatt  as Management Trainee; this set him up to take his first Marriott role in August 1985 as pre-opening Banquet Manager at the New York Marriott Marquis, an extremely important opening for Marriott International. In November 1990, Hossein joined the pre-opening team of the New York Marriott Financial Center as Director of Banquet Operations followed in October 1991 by the role of Director of Banquet Operations at the Long Island Marriott in New York. In January 1993 Hossein returned to the New York Marriott Marquis as Director of Event Services where he stayed for one more year until he relocated to beautiful Orange County in Southern California to assume the role of Director of Food and Beverage at the Newport Beach Marriott Hotel and Tennis Club. Hossein then relocated to Scottsdale, Arizona where he was appointed as pre-opening Director of Food and Beverage at the Camelback Inn Golf Club.  He then returned home to New York in January 2000 and to the world renowned Waldorf Astoria Hotel as Sr. Director of Event Operations. In November 2002 Hossein joined the Renaissance Esmeralda Resort and Spa as Director of Event Operations.   

In September 2004, Hossein took on his first Middle East assignment as Director of Food and Beverage at the JW Marriott Kuwait City and in September 2006 promoted to Director of Operations. In February 2008 Hossein moved onto his first General Manager role to open the Marriott Executive Apartments in Bahrain where he did an exemplary job positioning the brand in Bahrain and taking it to number one Market Share position.
