MUSCAT -- Global management, engineering and development consultancy Mott MacDonald has been appointed as owner's engineer by the Phoenix Power Company for the construction of the largest ever power station in Oman.
The 2,000MW combined cycle power plant located at Sur is being developed to meet the growing commercial and consumer demand for electricity.
Capable of firing on both natural gas as the main fuel and distillate fuel oil as a back-up, the power station will be equipped with the latest Siemens 'F class' gas turbines and a dry low-NOx combustion system.
Grant Willis, Mott MacDonald's project manager, said:
"Early power of 433MW is scheduled to be available from April 2013 with the remainder of the 2,000MW capacity scheduled for commercial operation in April 2014. Once built, some older, less efficient power plants in Oman will be decommissioned."
