More than 1,500 impounded vehicles may be up for grabs

Tuesday, May 22, 2012

Gulf News

Abu Dhabi Around 1,548 vehicles that have been impounded for more than a year at the Bani Yas vehicles impounding yard could be sold off in an open auction unless owners finalise their release, the Municipality of Abu Dhabi City announced in a statement sent yesterday.

Vehicle owners have therefore been urged to resolve the cases by visiting the External Centres Division at the municipality’s Al Salam Street head office in the capital. The municipality also urged residents not to abandon vehicles and machinery in car parks, roadsides and other open areas in the capital. If a vehicle is found abandoned, municipal inspectors monitor it for 14 days, before affixing a notice to have it removed within the next 24 hours.

If the vehicle remains after this time, it is towed to the designated impounding yard.

The municipal statement added that abandoning vehicles in public places not only disrupts traffic flow but also uses up parking spaces. The abandoned vehicles and machinery also accumulate dust, thus spoiling the general appearance of the area.
