Dubai Hollywood has goofed up again and this time it is not a historical inaccuracy in a movie, but about the weather in Dubai.
The blinding sandstorm scene in Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol, in which Tom Cruise chases the villain across Dubai, is simply not possible, a weatherman said.
Writing in the weather portal about the scene, Ahmad Sajwani, an Emirati meteorologist, said such a freak sandstorm is not possible in the UAE. “We are more likely to get a shower than such a freak sandstorm,” he wrote.
He added that such a blinding sandstorm usually occurs only in Iraq, Saudi Arabia or Kuwait. “The sudden, strong north-westerly winds kick up dust and sand in those countries,” he said and noted that by the time such weather arrives in the UAE it loses its intensity and ends up as a dust storm that hangs in the air.
The movie’s sandstorm scene has kicked up a lot of dust among Tweeps from Dubai who have lambasted it on Twitter.
