DUBAI - One of Dubai's oldest industrial companies, J Ray McDermott, on Thursday (Feb 1) marked 20 years of its presence in the Jebel Ali Free Zone at a function attended by His Highness Sheikh Maktoum Bin Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Chairman of the Dubai Technology and Media Free Zone Authority, and Sultan Ahmed bin Sulayem, Chairman Dubai World.
McDermott, as the company is popularly known, has been producing unique products for the world's offshore oil and gas industry for over four decades and was the first major industry to move its base to Jebel Ali Free Zone.
Pointing this out, Mr Bin Sulayem said: "McDermott has played a major part in the development of Dubai from early days. It shifted to Jafza at a time when many companies were hesitant to come here. Today, Jebel Ali is the New Dubai and the preferred destination to entrepreneurs of every kind.
"McDermott provides us with a sophisticated example of what a company could achieve when you have excellent management and manpower behind you.
"McDermott will continue to receive our unstinted support as they look to an even brighter future. We congratulate them on this happy occasion and hope to celebrate many more with them in the future."
