The Larsen and Toubro (Oman) management has said that the company is in the process of implementing demands of employees who struck work on March 21.
Though only a handful of Omani employees assembled at the company premises in Ruwi on Sunday, a company official said that these were individual grievances which will be looked into by concerned departments.
"Action has been initiated on the demands of protesters and the Ministry of Manpower (MoM) has been informed about this through a letter," PR Surendhra Babu, chief executive officer, Larsen and Toubro (Oman), told Muscat Daily, adding, "I met all those who assembled today. These are individual demands, which will be looked into by the concerned departments."
Hundreds of Omani workers, including drivers, safety officers, watchmen, clerks and other administrative staff from different project sites of the construction major, had staged a demonstration before the company head office on March 21.
The management then held a meeting with representatives of protesters and officials from MoM on the same day. At the meeting, it was agreed upon that a few officials against whom the protesters had complained will be transferred to other departments. It was also decided that the employees will get a 25 per cent salary hike from April 1.
They will also get an annual bonus. The management had agreed to take a decision on the demand for five-day week in two weeks' time. It was agreed that overtime payment will be fixed according to the Article 70 of the Omani Labour Law.
