INTERIOR CAMPAIGN TARGETS LAW BREAKERS

KUWAIT CITY, April 27

The Ministry of Interior continues its campaign against those who violate the law, including the expatriates staying in the country illegally to pave the way for their deportation, says First Deputy Premier and Interior Minister Sheikh Ahmad Al-Humoud.

Calling on all illegal residents to rectify their status and strictly comply with the laws of the country, Sheikh Ahmad warned the ministry has laid down a comprehensive plan to deal with all violations and the illegal residents.

Based on the statement of the minister and the procedures taken by the ministry to eliminate the marginal workers, the campaigns also target visa traders who bring unskilled expatriate workers into the country.

Asked if these campaigns will last, the minister asserted they spare no effort in carrying out carefully studied plans to secure the country. He said the citizens should respect the traffic regulations not only for their own safety but also that of other road users. "We will apply the law on those who violate the traffic regulations, especially those who do not respect the speed limits to protect people's lives," he warned.

Sheikh Ahmad appealed to the public to fully cooperate with the security authorities to guarantee the safety of everyone, not only on the roads but everywhere. He looks forward to a close coordination with the National Assembly to push for the enactment of laws to maintain national security and stability. He cited the weapons collection bill to activate the role of securitymen and bolster their dignity to enable the ministry to carry out its tasks, particularly in controlling crimes and arrest criminals under an integrated security organization.

The minister asserted he welcomes inquiries, proposals and criticisms which are aimed at handling security positions, away from personal criticisms and offensive phrases against the ministry employees and officials. He said anyone who tries to humiliate, attack or malign securitymen violates the dignity of the country.

Sheikh Ahmad added the ministry works silently to implement the recommendations presented in the secret session held earlier to deal with the security situation in the country. He affirmed the ministry seeks the assistance of efficient security personnel with the ability to carry out their duties well.

Meanwhile, the decision-makers at the Interior Ministry has instructed the concerned officials in the Immigration Department of each governorate to be thorough in verifying applications for family and visit visas to ensure that the visitors have the same nationality as their hosts, reports Al-Qabas daily quoting sources.

Sources said the directive also stressed the need to be strict in processing men's applications for the recruitment of domestic workers. Sources revealed the new clause stipulates that the applicant should produce document of his residence, so the officials will not accept residence of the sponsor's father. Sources explained the ministry has realized some sponsors have been manipulating procedures in hiring domestic workers.

Sources added the regulation states that a sponsor has right to only one domestic worker unless he presents proof on the necessity of another worker. Sources asserted this regulation is aimed at protecting domestic workers and their sponsors against the manipulative acts of some domestic worker recruitment offices.

Sources disclosed the immigration departments that used to witness large presence of non-Kuwaiti applicants for family visas, no longer experience such a situation. Sources added the ministry is strict in granting family visas to Syrians, Iranians, Lebanese, Pakistanis, Yemenis, while some nationalities will be included in the list soon.
